The Monmouth County Arts Council in collaboration with Brookdale Community College presented the 2010 Teen Arts Festival on March 18 & 19, 2010 on the campus of Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, NJ. An exciting and unique event, the Monmouth County Arts Council's Teen Arts Festival is an exceptional opportunity for teens aged 13 to 19 to experience all disciplines of the arts and to participate in workshops, performances, exhibits, and critiques.
Nearly 1800 teens attended this year, representing 29 different middle and high schools in Monmouth County, both public and private. During the two festival days, over 20 artists/teachers presented workshops and master classes in their individual specialties, including drama, filmmaking, voice, acting, instrumental music and more.
Prior to the Festival, a school coordinator/teacher completes all paperwork for the festival and students prepare and practice their chosen art presentations for critiques and critical analysis, in one or two arts disciplines. During the Festival, students receive valuable feedback about their art in group and individual critiques, both written and verbal, and often "sit-in" on the critiques of other emerging artists in their discipline, increasing their educational experience.
Professional artists at the Festival provide in-depth critical reviews and analysis of student work, performances and group presentations, a process that all students report to be most beneficial to their growth as artists. Each year the professional artists are impressed with the quality and diversity of the art presented by the teens. Kudos to their schools and teachers!
