Monmouth Arts presents Día de Muertos DIY Workshop – a cultural, community-building event that gives participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) cultural tradition of facepainting.

In collaboration with the Borough of Red Bank, Monmouth Arts offers this free event to community members who are looking to learn how to paint their own Calavera (Skull) makeup and more about what the tradition represents.

About the Artist: Gina Hernandez (Dulzura Eterna)

Gina Hernandez, also known as Dulzura Eterna as a Catrina, started her journey in 2022 out of pure curiosity for Día de los Muertos and its beautiful way of celebrating life instead of mourning death. Now, 4 years later, she’s collaborated with amazing people, attended unforgettable events, and gained recognition she never imagined.

Every dress and headpiece she wears is handmade – hand-painted, hand-sewn, and inspired by ideas she nurtures throughout the year. 

“Some gowns take 70+ hours to bring to life, but every detail is worth it,” says Gina. “I also practice face painting, experimenting with colors and styles to create something new each time. It may look complicated, but it’s really about letting your creativity flow and having fun with the process.”
