  • Creative Aging | Monmouth Arts

The goal of the Creative Aging program is to bring the transformative power of the arts to our senior community. Through the program, teaching artists deliver free visual arts activities to seniors at Monmouth County community organizations. CREATIVE AGING In 2023 Monmouth Arts launched our Creative Aging Program, with the goal of bringing the transformative power of the arts to our senior community. Through the program, teaching artists deliver free visual arts activities once a week for six to eight weeks to seniors at Monmouth County community organizations. We recognize a pressing need to connect with and value the voices of older adults. Even in the absence of a pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that nearly 25% of U.S. adults aged 65 and over experience social isolation. Of them, 43% report that they feel lonely on a regular basis. The program’s therapeutic activities focus on giving each participant the feeling of success and purpose, with enhanced mental, emotional, and physical well-being. The activities are complimented by guest facilitators, including mental health professionals. Since we began this program, Monmouth Arts provided visual arts activities to older adults at senior centers in Red Bank, Long Branch, Eatontown, Keyport, and Asbury Park. Monmouth Arts is working to expand this program to more seniors and centers in 2025. For additional information, please contact Connie Isbell, Director of Membership & Community Engagement at connie@monmoutharts.org or 732.212.1890 ext. 101. The development of this program was made possible in 2023 by funding from the Creative Aging Initiative of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Monmouth Arts is grateful for the additional support it continues to receive from funders.

This program invites all Monmouth County senior citizens to apply to be included in the show held at the Monmouth County Library in Manalapan. The show is held in August of each year, and winners from the show move on to compete once more at the NJ State Senior Citizen Art Show. Since only so many artists can move forward to the State show, Monmouth Arts has decided to produce a second exhibit of selected artists from the show to show their work once more at ArtSpace 105! These artists were curated based on the recommendation of a panel of jurors who reviewed the work prior to the August exhibit. The mediums range from Acrylic, Oil, and Watercolor, to Mixed Media, Drawing, Photography, and Craft. We are proud to present this incredible group of professional and nonprofessional artists at ArtSpace 105 this year, and hope you will join us as we celebrate the incredible achievement of Monmouth County's senior citizen artists!
