Teen Arts Festival

Open Call for Workshop Proposals from Teaching Artists!

We are looking for professional Teaching Artists to engage and inspire students at the 2016 Monmouth Teen Arts Festival!  Students are looking for fun workshops to complement their experiences with professional critiques of their work.  Workshops should introduce new concepts to students that may not necessarily be taught in their schools.  See the Workshop Proposal for some suggestions on workshop ideas.

Deadline for Workshop Proposals is January 15, 2016.

Teaching Artists will be contacted shortly after that date with final decisions.  Please remember that our workshops rotate each year and even if your proposal is not accepted this time around, we encourage artists to apply again next year.

We are gearing up for our 12th annual Monmouth Teen Arts Festival!  Every March, Monmouth Arts produces the county’s Teen Arts Festival, inviting all teens ages 13-19 to experience professional critiques in their artistic disciplines, fun and interactive workshops, peer performances and exhibitions.  We provide a welcoming environment for students to showcase their skills and hear valuable critiques from professional artists.

We have the fortunate opportunity to partner with Brookdale Community College at their Lincroft campus for the 2016 Monmouth Teen Arts Festival.

The festival dates have been confirmed:

Thursday, March 17 and Friday, March 18, 2016

We welcome high schools, middle schools, home-schooled students and arts schools to participate.  If your school does not sign up, individuals can register with the help of their parents (if under 18 years old).  Professional critique disciplines include:

  • Visual Art (2-D and 3-D)
  • Photography (Digital welcome)
  • Fashion
  • Video
  • Dance
  • Musical Theater
  • Drama
  • Jazz & Large Instrumental (10+ performers)
  • Piano
  • Instrumental Solo and Small Ensemble
  • Vocal Solo and Small Ensemble
  • Choir (9+ singers)
  • Creative Writing/Poetry

Our theme this year–Creative Beasts.  This is a play on the artist as a creative beast and also the beast or animal as subject.  All disciplines should be able to work with this theme. Outstanding themed work will be considered for inclusion in our Arts Education Awards.  Please understand themed work is not a requirement for participation in the festival, nor is this theme related to the 2016 State Teen Arts Festival.  The theme is for marketing each year’s festival, for the juried visual arts exhibition during the festival, and for some of the workshops (visual and performing arts).

Online Registration will open on November 1, 2015.

Download Registration Form Creative Beasts 2016 here.

*Please note, the form was updated on 11/1 to include:  “By returning this form, you agree to allow students selected from your school to attend the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival in June of 2016.”  This inclusion will help school’s streamline the process of attending the state festival if they so choose.

Registration Form and Purchase Orders or Checks for registration fees are due January 15, 2016.

There is a late fee after January 15, 2016. Please plan ahead accordingly and reserve your space with your students at our event as soon as possible.

LATE FEE:  $100

Late Registration closes on February 1, 2016.

I urge you to reserve your space with us because all county high schools have been actively invited to participate in 2016. The NJ State Teen Arts Festival has been on hiatus for over 5 years and will be resuming in 2016.  Monmouth teen artists selected from the festival will be invited to go on to the NJ State Teen Arts Festival on June 1, 2 and 3 of 2016.  Check out the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival for more information.

After several years in hiatus, the NJ State Teen Arts Festival is back in 2016!

Only students who are nominated from each county’s annual Teen Arts Festival will be adjudicated by state-level judges.  Adjudicators at the state level are professional teaching artists and professionals in their fields.

Like our county festival, the state festival will hold workshops for ALL students to participate in.  All New Jersey high schools that are registered for the state festival are welcome to send students to participate in workshops and master classes.

In addition to workshops, master classes, video contests, a poetry cafe and adjudication, selected students from each county for adjudication will have the opportunity to win scholarship funds.

Registration for the 2016 Monmouth County Teen Arts Festival does NOT constitute registration for the NJ State Teen Arts Festival.  Monmouth Arts does not coordinate the state festival.
