In Search of Meaning Gwynneth Green and Lou Storey Exhibit: March 8 - May 7, 2021 In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, that resulted in the postponement of our ArtSpace 105 micro-gallery exhibits, we invite the arts community to view work at our all-new Digital Gallery! "In Search of Meaning" aptly names the driving force behind the works of Gwynneth Green and Lou Storey. Each in their own way, Green through poetry, prose and photography, and Storey through words and paintings, intend to communicate personal and universal truths through their individual art forms. In Green’s photo musings printed on metal plates, words are subtly melded into the photograph’s image, allowing the viewer a moment of discovery when the narrative reveals itself. Similarly in Storey’s paintings, words are used as catalyst for the viewer to find meaning through the use of color, pattern, and hand-built dimensional elements. Lou Storey "Two Atoms, Two Adams" acrylic on homosote panel, cast resin shapes, 22" x 15" $60 Gwynneth Green "benched emotions" photo-musings printed on metal 11" x 17" $110 Lou Storey "Duck and Cover" acrylic paint on wood, cast resin shapes 12" x 15" $40 Gwynneth Green "angler’s realm" photo-musings printed on metal 12" x 8" $75 Lou Storey "A Wheel in a Wheel" acrylic on wood, cast resin shapes 17" x 13" $50 Gwynneth Green "aspirations rise" photo-musings printed on metal 11" x 17" $110 Lou Storey "The Hunt" acrylic on wood, cast resin shapes 14" x 14" $40 Gwynneth Green "laid silent" photo-musings printed on metal 8" x 12" $75 Lou Storey "And Yours Will Too" acrylic on wood, cast resin shapes 14" x 17" $50 Gwynneth Green "broken" photo-musings printed on metal 8" x 12" $75 Gwynneth Green uses the camera and the written word to create Photo Musings, merging text within image inviting the viewer closer inspection that provides a moment of discovery. Her artwork has been exhibited in the mid-Atlantic region as well as in virtual exhibitions. A published poet with thirteen publications, she currently lives in Little Silver. Lou Storey uses dimensional hand-built shapes and bright polychrome patterns in his paintings that illustrate concepts, thoughts and feelings; a visual form of storytelling. A graduate of Pratt Institute MFA in fine arts, he has exhibited his artwork nationally for over thirty years. He lives in Long Branch with his husband Steve and works as a psychotherapist in Red Bank.

Teens ages 13-19 are invited to experience professional art critiques, fun and interactive workshops, peer performances and exhibitions. Welcome to the Monmouth Arts Teen Arts Festival! We’re thrilled to invite teens ages 13–19 to celebrate their creativity, connect with peers, and learn from professional artists. Whether your school has participated before or this is your first time joining us, the festival offers two exciting days in mid-March filled with professional critiques, interactive cross-disciplinary workshops, peer performances, and exhibitions. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in a supportive, inspiring environment and receive valuable feedback from experienced artists. We welcome high schools, middle schools, home-schooled students, art and music studios, and dance schools to participate. If your school isn’t registering, individual teens can join with parent guidance (for those under 18). The 2026 Monmouth Arts Teen Arts Festival, presented in partnership with Monmouth NJ 250, embraces the theme “Art is Revolutionary.” This theme boldly recognizes that young creatives are not just participants in change; they are catalysts for it. As America reflects on 250 years of its own evolving story, and Monmouth County reflects on its significant role in the struggle for independence, the festival draws a line from past to present: creativity has always fueled change. From the spirit that helped shape a new nation to the visions of today’s young artists, expression continues to drive progress, connection, and hope. We celebrate art’s ability to spark dialogue, inspire action, and shape the future. Monmouth Arts invites teens to bring their most daring visions, experiment across disciplines, and explore how art can be both deeply personal and profoundly revolutionary. 2026 PROGRAM INFORMATION Teachers and administrators are encouraged to reach out to Monmouth Arts with any questions about participating in the Monmouth Arts Teen Arts Festival! Inspired by writings in Thích Nhất Hạnh’s The Sun My Heart, the series reflects the idea that light and darkness do not cancel each other out, but merge into wholeness. Created with gouache and hand-burnished prints, the print work emphasizes presence and mindfulness—balancing immediacy with the meditative act of pressing hand-carved, often Sanskrit or Tibetan-inspired imagery into paper. Visual elements draw from the artist’s practice of watching ocean sunrises: triangular forms and soft gradients emerge from textured darkness, like dawn breaking over the shore. Rooted in themes of interconnection and transformation, “The Sun, My Heart” invites viewers to witness how light and shadow, stillness and movement, self and other are never truly separate. About the Artist Summer Deaver is a multidisciplinary artist, yogi, and community organizer whose work bridges visual art, spiritual practice, and social transformation. With a BFA from the University of Georgia, Deaver's work spans printmaking, painting, ceramics, and murals—each medium serving as a vehicle for philosophical inquiry and healing. Her murals at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Whitechapel Projects invite moments of collective care and connection. As Director of the Caroline Huber Wellness Center at Brookdale Community College, Deaver advocates for environmental regeneration and social justice with a healing-centered lens. She has exhibited at AG Gallery, The Kitchen, Cinders Gallery in NYC, and has spoken at the Rubin Museum of Art. PAST EXHIBITS Interested in exhibiting at ArtSpace? - Annual Meeting | Monmouth Arts
Monmouth Arts was proud to welcome our community to the 2026 Annual Meeting, Reset, Restore, Create, an evening dedicated to reflection, connection, and the transformative role of the arts in wellness and creativity. The program opened with a grounding sound bowl healing session led by musician Jamie Coppa, setting an intentional and restorative tone for the evening. Guests then heard from Dr. Micah Hillis, DSW, LCSW, Director of the Brandt Behavioral Health Treatment Center and Retreat at Rutgers University Behavioral HealthCare, who shared insights on emerging initiatives at the intersection of arts and wellness. Drawing inspiration from a quote often attributed to Hans Christian Andersen — “When words fail, music speaks” — Dr. Hillis offered his own powerful reflection: “When words fail, the arts speak,” underscoring the vital role creative expression plays in healing, communication, and balance. Throughout the evening, attendees reflected on Monmouth Arts’ accomplishments from 2025 while enjoying nourishing light refreshments provided by Kitchenwitch, and engaged in meaningful conversation with fellow artists, supporters, and community leaders. The Annual Meeting also included the election of new Board members and the welcoming of returning members, whose leadership and dedication continue to guide the organization forward. We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed to a memorable and inspiring evening. Together, we look ahead with renewed energy as we continue to champion the arts as a vital force for wellness, creativity, and community. 2025 Monmouth Arts Recap Featured Guest Speaker Dr. Micah Hillis, DSW, LCSW is the Director of the Brandt Behavioral Health Treatment Center and Retreat at Rutgers University Behavioral HealthCare.
