Each spring, Monmouth Arts presents the Monmouth Arts Teen Arts Festival to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of young artists from across Monmouth County. In light of the pandemic affecting communities around the globe, Monmouth Arts has decided that this year we must once again present this program virtually, in an effort to keep all of our young students, teaching artists, panelists, and educators safe.

We invite all teens ages 13-19 to experience professional critiques in their artistic disciplines, fun and interactive cross-disciplinary workshops, peer performances, and exhibitions. We provide a welcoming environment for students to showcase their skills and hear valuable critiques from professional artists. We welcome high schools, middle schools, home-schooled students, art/music studios, and dance schools to participate. If your school does not sign up, individual teens can register with the help of their parents (if under 18 years old).

Much like last year, there will be two components to this year's festival:

  • Adjudications & Workshops:

    • On April 28-30, Monmouth Arts will conduct adjudications in each of the artistic disciplines over Zoom. Additionally during this period, educators will be emailed participation links for virtual workshops in a variety of different disciplines. While these workshops are completely optional for festival participants, we encourage educators to integrate them into their lesson plans during the festival days, in an effort to create a full artistic experience for their students.

  • Teen Arts Virtual Stage + Showcase:

    • In the weeks leading up to the festival, we will once again present the Teen Arts Virtual Stage + Showcase, as a means to continue providing students with an outlet to present their work for the rest of their peers. Typically during our physical festival, students have the opportunity to perform on stage, or have their work displayed publicly - and since this year that has proven impossible to do in-person, we will revive the Virtual Stage + Showcase as a means to allow students to freely express and share their work and performance with their peers and the public. Details on dates and how to submit will be made available in the weeks to come.

Important Dates:

Teen Arts Showcase Begins: Every Friday, beginning March 19th

Creative Writing and Film Deadline: EXTENDED - new Due Date is March 19th, 2021

Sheet Music Deadline: March 26, 2021

Dance/Music/Theatre - Video Upload Deadline: April 9, 2021

Visual Art/Photography - Photo Upload Deadline: April 9, 2021

VIRTUAL STAGE
TEEN ARTS VIRTUAL STAGE + SHOWCASE

Monmouth Arts is very excited to announce our second annual Teen Arts Virtual STAGE + SHOWCASE! Since the world of fall plays and spring musicals, class art exhibits, dance recitals and more has not been a reality as of recent, we know just how much our students miss their art experiences. Monmouth Arts realizes that the arts are more important now than ever before; it is through the arts that we can express our feelings, provide comfort to one another, inspire hope for the future, and bring together our talented community of artists...and we want YOU to help us to do all of these things!

In response to the current state of the pandemic, we hope to provide our teens with an artistic outlet as part of our Virtual Teen Arts Festival.

What is the Teen Arts Virtual Stage + Showcase?

Each Friday, Monmouth Arts will share a short video on our social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) featuring performances, visual art, and more from young artists throughout our community! We invite viewers from locally and beyond to check out the incredible talent thriving right here in Monmouth County. Visual arts selections compiled throughout the contest will be compiled into an Online Teen Arts Gallery! The first Virtual Stage + Showcase will be posted on Friday, March 19, and will continue each Friday through Friday, April 16.

Who can enter?

Any student of a registered school (or students who registered for the Teen Arts Festival individually) between the ages of 13-19 is eligible to submit an entry! Entrants must currently be following Monmouth Arts on Instagram (@MonmouthArts).

How do I submit an entry?

In early March, we will post the entry form right here on our website. Students can fill out and submit the entry form along with your video or image by Wednesday of each week during the showcase period! Videos selected for that week’s Virtual Stage + Showcase will then be compiled and shared on Monmouth Arts Facebook & Instagram pages each Friday. Entries for each round will open weekly on Thursdays (for the following week). Only 1 submission allowed per week. Monmouth Arts may publish entries in a following week’s showcase.

COVER CONTEST
Cover Contest

As we have done for the past several years, Monmouth Arts is encouraging student artists to submit designs to be considered as the cover art for the festival program at the upcoming 2021 Monmouth Arts Teen Arts Festival! Although the festival is virtual this year, we are still creating a digital version of our festival program, which will be available to download on our website. In addition to having your design on the cover of the program, the winner will also receive a $50 Red Bank gift card!

Theme: Daydreams from a Digital World

These days it feels like the digital world is taking over! It’s easy to feel stuck when our connection is limited to computer and phone screens. What are you daydreaming about lately? Where do you escape to and find inspiration? It could be anything from a made up fantasy world to your favorite neighborhood spot on a sunny day. Let your creativity be your guide!

Deadline: March 29, 2021

Submission Guidelines:

  • Students submitting design work must be registered for the 2020 Monmouth Arts Teen Arts festival.

  • Designs should reflect the theme Daydreams in a Digital World.

  • Submissions should be original ideas only. Of course, we encourage you to be inspired by your favorite comics and characters, but please only use original ideas and non-trademarked designs.

  • Monmouth Arts will add text as an overlay to the image with the festival name and relevant logos. The Monmouth Arts 50th Anniversary logo is available on our website to be used in your design as a placeholder to where you believe the logo should be within the design, but please be aware that Monmouth Arts reserves the right to alter those placements.

  • All visual art forms are welcome (traditional or digital art forms; photographs of 3-dimensional work are acceptable)

  • Designs must be submitted as a .pdf, in addition to the raw Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign file. Adobe files must include all editable layers. In other words, the file should be editable by our team. Altogether, a native file and an exported file must be submitted.

  • Size: 8.5" x 5.5" plus a .125" bleed

  • Signed Submission Form must be sent in with the design in order to be considered. We will accept submission from either individual students directly, or educators on their behalf.

  • Submissions are due March 29, 2021 and the winner will be announced on April 9, 2021.

  • Submission form and design must be emailed to Arts Education and Events Manager, Vinny Martini, at vinny@monmoutharts.org by 11:59PM on Monday, March 29, 2021.
